Hello, this is Dr. Yeon-Soo Park, Administrator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Republic of Korea.

I sincerely welcome your visit to the "4th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction" web-site.

This Asian Ministerial Conference is a conference co-hosted by the United Nations, City of Incheon, and NEMA in order to discuss the mutual cooperation method and unified resolution for the disaster issues, such as heavy rain and catastrophic typhoon caused by the climate change, with the Ministers of disaster management departments in Asia-Pacific region, UN agencies, NGOs and etc. This conference has become a "Regional Platform" for the disaster risk reduction in the Asia-Pacific region since its first opening in China, 2005, and we, the Republic of Korea is honored to host the 4th AMCDRR in October, 2010.

Our 4th AMCDRR committee is preparing the 4th AMCDRR by developing private and public cooperation system such as government sectors, universities and organizations through placing its focus on recognizing the severity of the increasing disaster risks due to the climate change, and pursuing safer future by suggesting "Regional Roadmap or Action Plan for DRR through CCA" in Asia-Pacific region.

Also, this website is expected to play its role in developing safer Asia from disaster risks by utilizing "Platform sharing information and technological development of DRR related to CCA" which fulfill the action plan.

Your interest and support is greatly appreciated in the successful hosting of the 4th UN Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction which will encourage the Republic of Korea to be the basis for the disaster risk prevention in Asia and the World.

Thank you for your interest in the 4th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR). My name is Song, Young-gil, the Mayor of Incheon City.

The City of Incheon is the center of Korea's new growth engines in the 21st century with its great potential and capacity. With its topnotch infrastructure, Incheon International Airport, and Incheon Port, the city is now undoubtedly a hub of the Northeast Asia logistics business.

Incheon, especially Songdo District, is well-equipped with IT technology, which has helped create an innovative, convenient and disaster risk-free city. In this regard, I find it very meaningful that the 4th AMCDRR is to be held in Songdo, Incheon.

Recent climate change and the unusual weather phenomena happening around the world have resulted in a rapid increase of disaster risks and forewarns of additional calamities. More than any other part of the world, Asia is vulnerable to disasters caused by climate change and has been increasingly suffering from frequent flooding and drought.

Considering the current threats we face today, the 4th AMCDRR will discuss the ways to ensure a future that is secure from natural disasters caused by climate change.

I believe that the conference will produce practical and concrete plans to reduce disaster risks in Asia-Pacific region. Accordingly, I ask for your interest and participation in the event and look forward to seeing you in Incheon this October.

Thank you.

Song, Young-gil

Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City
